Rave Review: Deadmau5 – For Lack of a Better Name by Dan

EVILMAU5!
I feel like all summer the only tracks released are meant for Ibiza. And yes I know I mentioned Ibiza in the previous post, but thats the point dammit! None of these tracks seem like they’d do well anywhere else. I can’t imagine this track going over well were DJ Mehdi were to throw it on around christmas time ’09. To put it blunt: this track would blow your mind on ecstasy, this track will put you to sleep otherwise. Check it out here

Rave Review: Tiësto & Sneaky Sound System – I Will Be Here by Dan

Blegh

I have never been a fan of Tiësto’s work and when I had the chance to see Sneaky Sound System at the most recent Rockness, I choose to have lunch instead, so my review might be a little biased. Frankly, it sounds like another Ibiza anthem. I feel like if Cascada had come out with the same song, no one would have noticed the difference. The weak drums and lack of a real melody lend to the distant air that I hate so very much. Its like if Dave Gahan were to get castrated and release another solo album, this would be the track that didn’t make it onto the album and is then released on his greatest hits as a “rare single.” The Benny Benassi remix on the other hand is a different story. I could see people rocking out to this. For those of you unconvinced, feel free to pick up the full EP from iTunes here

Dominic Jones’ First Jewelry Collection: To Die For by Sara

Hot pink and red leather driving gloves with white gold nails attached

Jones’ first collection couldn’t have come at a better time. His designs fit perfectly with the beautifully strong, rocker styles we have seen on the runway, and on the streets. Dominic Jones takes the ‘rocker-chic’ fad that we all know and love to the next level, just scroll through the look book for his first collection. And, dare I mention the driving gloves?? Exquisite. Personally I don’t know if I would wear them, but I can’t deny they are wearable art. The bold, vibrant colors of the leather beautifully juxtapose white gold nails that contrast the ‘bright, bold nail polish’ obsession. Another interesting facet of Jones’ collection is his incorporation of the rose-stem detail. Besides for the design on the cover of his look-book, Jones’ never uses the flower, a well know sign of beauty and love, itself. He instead focuses on the darker side of a rose, the thorny stem.

Side note: anyone else think this ties into the growing love of anything vampire??

Its Always Friday In London by Dan

Just got sent some shots of the most recent Always Friday party at the London Egg.

These guys know how to throw parties. A few friends and I went to their ’08 Christmas party co-hosted by MixMag with a DJ set from Justice. Admittedly, it was a little packed, but the night was defiantly a once in a lifetime experience. On July 31st they’re hosting Tiesto in the Park so if you’re gonna be in London, you know where you should be.

They also managed to send us over this little piece of candy from their resident DJ Tommi. Check it out

This kid never ceases to amaze. After leaving KanYe to pursue a carreer on his own, DJ A-Trak has come out with gem after gem. His most recent is this epic LIVE remix of Daft Punk’s Robot.

He’s got some upcoming tour dates, so if you’re in town, check that shit. Sad St. Andrews isn’t on there.
