Lazers Never Die – Rave Review by Dan

This EP is what MIA’s horrible new album should have sounded like. The opening track, Sound of Siren sounds like an anthem for our scandalous, thieving, decision-regretting generation. The EP keeps going with tracks like Good Enuff (Cash Flow Dub) and Bruk Out (Buraka Som Sistema Remix) that could keep the party chilled for hours – in the best of ways.

These songs sound much more polished than Lazer’s first album innocently titled “Guns Dont Kill People, Lazers Do.” It feels as though Lazer has stopped trying to produce pop tracks and really embraced the unique spirit of their music. From their choice of studio (Tuff Gong, Jamaica – made famous by Bob Marley way back when) to their music videos (notorious for making NO sense and leaving you feel like you need a shower), Major Lazer perpetually defies expectation and imagines what to call “strange.” This EP shows that just through its choice of remixes and collaborators who include Buraka Som Sistema (mentioned above), Thom Yorke, and MIA. All of these artists have been before described as genre bending but to hear them all together in one quick, intense EP is a real treat. If you haven’t already, pick it up through Major Lazer’s myspace.
