Let’s Talk About Some Tights by Elise

Two weekends ago I went to Edinburgh and bought seven pairs of tights at Topshop. Seven. I know that’s excessive, but you know when you can’t find a particular thing you’re desperately searching for, and instead you just get everything close to it that’s sort of similar in hopes that it will satisfy you? Well these are the tights I was lusting after:

Knitted tights (especially loose knitted tights) are such a sweet alternative to the black ones we so often turn to. Topshop has some right now (but not in that deliciously Christmasy berry color) and so does Free People (the cost to ship them from the States is entirely worth it – their knit tights are chunky and warm enough to almost double as leggings). White or cream knit tights (and stockings – La Boutique might have a few pairs left) can almost be an innocent interpretation of fishnets, if the knit itself is loose enough to show some skin.

…Time for Kate Moss to design another exciting collection for Topshop! This time around, we’re excited about her Holiday 2009 collection which came out today. Topshop has had a few previews bouncing around for awhile, some of which we posted a little while ago.

The collection seems to involve a lot of Asian components, incorporating kimono style silhouette and bamboo and lotus flower prints. Click here for a cute interview with Kate Moss about the inspiration behind the collection, and her tastes in lingerie (another influence behind the collection). I like some of the glimmery little dresses because they seem more Christmasy than the Asian pieces. Would you wear clothing inspired by the Orient for the Holidays?

Alright, so I don’t know how many of you read the Topshop blog, Inside Out, or follow their hyper-creative team on Twitter, but lately they’ve been giving out a lot of little previews of Kate Moss’ Christmas collection (meant to come out on Thursday). From what I’ve seen so far, the collection looks like it’s going to be a lot of glitsy little pieces with several silky nightwear and oriental lounge wear looks. In a recent interview, Kate Moss said the pajama tops could be worn as layering pieces, or instead of shirts. Here are a few pictures of some of the day wear. I’m excited for the collection and all, but do you really think these pieces match your image of Kate Moss’ style?

There’s a lot of cool stuff going on at Topshop right now (Kate Moss’ Holiday collection drops this Thursday, and the previews are great so check back for that). But the Topshop news I’m talking about in this post is Angie Johnson (of the deliciously unique I Heart Norwegian Wood) and her new collection for Topshop’s latest EDIT project. The collection will include Johnson’s famous cage skirts and some of her most unique jewelry. Johnson doesn’t usually design apparel, just accessories, so I’ll be super excited about the leggings she’ll be showing. And that’s when I’m not freaking out about the leather cage skirt which I’ve been tirelessly tracing since June or so. It’s a pretty eccentric piece, maybe not the thing for the average Tuesday night, but it would be legit for layering (over another dress or skirt, I’d think). Also – don’t you just love Johnson’s comic book-esque drawings? The pieces will be in Topshop Oxford Circus, where the EDIT project will take place. Why can’t they do one in Edinburgh? Oh well, trip to London?
